It's time to let things get SPIIIICY! Engagement sessions are my favorite way to get to know you babes and it helps me see just how your love story ticks! Most of my wedding packages include a complimentary engagement session because it is so important to me that you two not only have STUNNING photos to use in stationary like your save-the-dates or invitations, but that you guys have the chance to get to know me in-person and get a feel for what it will be like working with me before your wedding day. Plus, doing an engagement session also means we get to be besties even sooner!

I like to use this time to really connect with you guys, adventure style, and maybe even some tacos and margs?!

So whether you already were totally down for an engagement session, or you’ve just decided now you want to add this stellar option to your package, you’re probably wondering, “When is the best time to have our engagement session?”

Typically I suggest that my couples opt for an engagement session AT LEAST 3 months before their wedding to avoid any last minute stress! Although some couples choose to do their sessions a year to 9 months out for the Save The Dates.

Now that we’ve talked about the best time for your engagement session, let’s chat about what type of engagement session is best for you! Do you two love setting out on a misty morning hike in the mountains? Then an Adventure Engagement Session is right up your alley! Or maybe your thing is lounging on the beach, or even in your own home munching on popcorn and binge-watching your favorite TV show. In that case, a Mini Session is totally for you!

The big differences between the two? A Mini Session is for the simple brides who only need one outfit and one stellar backdrop that’s easy to get to. An Adventure Session is for adventurers wanting to explore epic outdoor photo spots and indulge in a hobby or two together with multiple outfits and lots of time! I usually bring beers for Adventure Sessions too! Still not sure? Check out our Love Session posts in The Photo Journal to see examples of the two types of engagement sessions.

Destination Engagements

Have you ever considered taking your engagement photos somewhere a bit more...abroad?! For Kev and I’s engagement photos we actually flew to Iceland, brought a photographer with us, and took our photos all around the Vik area, from the stunning black sand beaches, to the vast and icy fjords! Sounds freakin’ epic right?

Well you can do this too!! The easiest way to make this happen is usually just asking me to tag along with you for 2 days while you’re on vacation somewhere! What I’ll do is provide a complimentary engagement session upgrade and then all you have to do is to cover the cost of my flight, transportation arrangements, and lodging for the two days.

If you have a Mini Session booked, you’ll upgrade to a Mini Destination Session

This includes: Mini Sunset Session + Mini Sunrise Session

If you have an Adventure Session booked, you’ll upgrade to an Adventure Destination Session

This includes: Adventure Sunset Session + Mini Sunrise Session
